The gifts that keep on giving

For those who invest in God’s Kingdom, and the spread of the Good News, something keeps rolling in that is more precious than worldly assets—people’s lives are changed that keep bearing more and more fruit.

Just this past week I received five emails that are a result of your investment in our ministry over the years:

FROM HUGO IN PITTSBURGH:

“Got your newsletter, things sound exciting.  Praying for you!  Last year I have officially transferred the Chinese congregation to a Taiwanese pastor that I helped trained up.  Now I am focusing on the international congregation plant (restarting it after years of neglect) and we are focusing mostly on reaching the large number of overseas Indians, Asians, and Africans students and professionals here.

Can I get a signed copy of your book?  : ) You made a big difference in my philosophy of ministry.  By the way, I am preaching through Genesis this year and plan on preaching through Romans next year.”

Note: Hugo took a church-planting course I taught and started a church for mainland Chinese studying in Pittsburgh. I coached a group of his leaders there to start an international church, which Hugo now leads.

FROM LYNN IN ANAHEIM:

“Hi Linus. This is Lynne from Lance’s office – and this is a secret!!! :o)

On October 21st we are celebrating Lance and Cheryl’s 15 years as pastor of the Vineyard, Anaheim. Questions:

1. Would you be in a position to attend our 10am service?

2. Would you also be prepared to do a little video for us to show on the morning, what Lance means to you?”

Note: Lance came to Christ through our family as a young college student, and after graduation went into ministry.

FROM JUSTUS, LEAD PASTOR, CROSSROADS CHURCH, ST. GENIS FRANCE:

Hi Linus. I hope this email finds you and Sharon doing well. I have met with Daphne and Richard, and plans are coming together for the Divine Expedition course on November 2-3. Daphne shared that she came to faith through your teaching of the book of Romans 30 years ago, so be encouraged!

Note: Sharon and I lived in France on the border of Geneva and were part of starting the Crossroads Ferney-Voltaire. Daphne and her husband Richard (both Irish) came to Christ while we were there and have faithfully served in leadership at the Crossroads Ferney over the years.

Phil Graf and I led a church planting seminar at the Crossroads two summers ago, resulting in the planting of a daughter church in Saint Genis France led by Justus Heyman. By the time you receive this, Sharon and I will be there to lead a Divine Expedition Seminar.

FROM RIA IN AMSTERDAM:

Hallo Linus. Thank you for sending us your…travel stories of evangelising in many parts of the world. Jaap and I follow your trips. The Lord must love you both very much. That your health is still so good, that you are able to make such strenuous trips and both looking so good.

It is about 21 years ago, that we entered the church for the first time in Amsterdam. Sharon, I never forget the sincere heartiness you welcomed us. It was like a warm bath. After that Sunday we never left the church.

A lot happened and many pastors and people came and left. The Church was and is growing and growing and over the years people came to us, or stayed in our house. The girls [two daughters] became LADIES. Priyati married a wonderfull guy from CROSSROADS CHURCH, almost 12 1/2 years ago. They have 4 children, 3 boys and one little girl. Priyati studied law and studies now to become a judge in Holland.

The youngest…found balance, after somewhat wild years, and became a wonderful mother.

Note: Sharon and I lived in Holland for five years, launching the Crossroads Church Amsterdam.

FROM LAINA IN OXNARD:

“I am full of gratitude this morning (and a bit of fatigue) for all that you four inputted into our people this weekend.

I cannot begin to recount all of the good feedback. Three couples want to join our Sunday evening gathering (one couple not yet believers, one couple nominal but moving, and one couple spiritually dead and emotionally stuck but wanting to make changes).

I think that there are at least 3 couples whose marriages were rescued.  They commented on how listening to you two (Linus and Sharon) gave them hope that one day they will be able to share their story too, if they do the hard work.  For the first time, they realized that it is not just about them. Hud rocked them with new paradigms on relationships.  All in all, you four were the perfect compliment to each other and a life vest for so many who were here.

I am telling all that we will do another in January, as they have all requested it and have lists of others to invite.”

Note: Laina (Graf) organized a couple’s seminar that Hud and Nancy McWilliams and Sharon and I led. Several couples were not yet married, several just married and the others not so far along or stuck. It was exciting to see lights come on regarding what it takes to have a good marriage.

MORE TO COME

As noted above, Sharon and I head to Europe to lead a Divine Expedition Seminar based on the book of Romans and speak at several churches. Shortly after our return, Phil Graf and I return to several cities in Uganda and South Sudan to lead Phase 2 of our six Phase training. Thanks for your investments that have and continue to bear much fruit.

Because He is the Vine,

Linus and Sharon
